Innovation that starts
inside the perimeter

Uhuru was built in the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe's Fintech Regulatory Sandbox — not around it. This page sets out our sandbox record, our licensing pathway, and the commitments we make to every user.

Track record

What the sandbox proved

Tested under supervision

  • Participated in the RBZ Fintech Regulatory Sandbox
  • Tested WhatsApp-based payments and a blockchain digital wallet
  • Confirmed strong adoption among informal-sector users
  • Demonstrated robust AML/CFT compliance in live operation
  • Validated data-driven risk tools for underserved segments

Regulatory alignment

Microfinance Act
Credit-Only MFI licence application in preparation, targeted within 60–90 days of RBZ engagement.
National Payment Systems Act
The sandbox-tested WhatsApp wallet framework extends to lending disbursements.
Exchange Control Regulations
Diaspora remittances continue to flow through licensed money transfer operators — Uhuru never handles cross-border transfers itself.
AML / CFT Frameworks
KYC at onboarding, ongoing transaction monitoring and suspicious-activity reporting, carried over from the sandbox build.
Consumer Protection
Transparent flat pricing, cooling-off periods and a dispute resolution channel built into the product.

Our commitments

What every user can hold us to

Transparent pricing

One flat fee, stated in dollars before you accept. The total to repay is always shown upfront — no compounding, no hidden charges, no surprises.

Data privacy

Remittance receipts are used solely for credit assessment. We never sell personal data, and senders and receivers see only their own information.

Responsible lending

Loan sizes are anchored to real inflows so repayments stay affordable. Cooling-off periods let borrowers change their minds, and disputes have a clear channel.
